The Harris Foundation joins in Harvey relief effort

After the devastation Hurricane Harvey brought to the Houston area in late August, many school districts decided to delay the start of the 2017-2018 school year to allow students and families time to recover. In an effort to provide support and recovery relief to some of the Houston area schools, The Harris Foundation in partnership with Microsoft and The Confidence Group went on a mission to bring smiles to the faces of the students attending Atherton Elementary with a school-wide BIG give giveaway.

Atherton's Principal Dr. Lemons gave his welcome to the Microsoft and Confidence Group teams, who came all the way from Dallas to join The Harris Foundation in this giveaway. With school bags - courtesy of Microsoft - stuffed with everything from blankets and teddy bears to crayons and coloring books, the students proudly carried their new comfort bags with smiles filled with gratitude. But not before a group of three 5th graders sang "Lean on Me", at Principal Lemons's request!

Students had a great time, and were promised another visit by Microsoft’s Raamel Mitchel to bring more backpacks for the 4th and 5th graders and a pizza party! Mr. Mitchel was even asked by Principal Lemons to be the next graduation speaker at Atherton.

Thank you MICROSOFT for all the goodies and The Confidence Group for all the logistical help! This is just an example of our work with the Houston community. Atherton Elementary is working with us in the Dare to Dream (DTD) program.
