Career Day at The Imani School

"Being a role model is the most powerful form of educating..."
-John Wooden

On January 19, 2017
The Imani School in Houston, Texas hosted a "dressed to impress" career day for a classroom of Pre-K scholars. The students were in for a special treat when veteran NASA Astronaut, Dr. Bernard A. Harris, Jr. showed up to the classroom in his own flight suit and wowed the crowd future young professionals. Dr. Harris spoke to the students about his life as an astronaut and many adventures he experienced in outer space.  He shared with them the importance math and science played in his studies and how it helped him reach his goal to become an astronaut.

The first picture is a literal translation of career shadowing at it best.  Notice the young future astronaut dressed in his own mini flight suit as he stands proudly next to his role model, Dr. Harris. What an wonderful imprint this moment must have made in the minds of these young students.

Along with our astronaut-to-be, the audience included a future policeman and at least two "Top Chefs", as you can see in the second photo below. It looks like a bright future awaits the young scholars at The Imani School.
