Capital One Bank's RockIt! Financial Academy is an innovative financial learning program that is made possible by a unique partnership between The Harris Foundation, Capital One Bank, SoftChalk, GameTruck, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – Houston Branch and Houston Independent School District (HISD).

Program Model

RockIt! is a 25-30 hour curriculum for middle school students. Comprised of 12 lessons that introduce students to concepts such as budgeting, saving, and investing through interactive lessons and gaming experiences, RockIt! engages and educates 21st century learners.  Lesson 1 includes an online financial literacy platform featuring interactive content that provides a foundation in financial knowledge and money management skills. Lessons 2-12 are built around the business of managing and marketing a band, where students apply foundational knowledge and work in collaborative teams to manage a band budget, earn, save and invest toward the goal of creating a music video. Teachers bring these topics to life through gaming experiences with Game Truck and resources from the Federal Reserve.

Parent & Community Involvement

Throughout the program, exposure to bank professionals and other role models provide the real‐world relevance that students need in order to understand the importance of financial intelligence and build the knowledge that will ensure their future fiscal success.

Additionally, resources from the Federal Reserve and SoftChalk are provided to parents to help them understand the concepts their children are learning and increase their own financial literacy.

Getting Involved

The entire RockIt! program is available to approximately 25 students at each RockIt!  site. However, the online platform used in Lesson 1 is available to all students at RockIt! schools and community-based-organizations. Incentives for participation include certification ceremonies, raffles, field trips and more!
